Gong Show Results

We showed Speak No Evil at The Loft on the 4th. Despite showing a nearly 6 minute film, we weren't gonged by the audience. (Films are guaranteed to play only 3 minutes before an audience is allowed to express their dislike of a film by yelling "GONG" at which point the Judge will stop the film from playing any longer and the film will not be eligible to win).

Even though the audience generally liked the film: we were topped by this film.

The Final Week

As mentioned before: we plan on releasing Speak No Evil this Friday (November 4th) at the loft. This means we have our work cut out for us to get this thing cut together and put on a DVD.

I'd like to thank everyone at Friday's UFO meeting for their honest input over the state of the film. We're taking your suggestions into consideration and we will have a highly polished film by Friday.

In terms of lessons learned: We've come to realize that editing high definition H.264 video in Final Cut Pro leads to errors: horrible errors. We're learning from this and next time we plan on converting everything to Apple Pro Res 422. It might take up more hard drive space: but it should make things a lot smoother.

As we are reaching the conclusion to this process: I'd like to thank everyone involved. Everyone who helped secure locations, props, costumes. Big thanks to the Tucson Film office for helping us get a location and thank you to Bourn Companies for letting us film at their garage. I'd like to give a big thanks to our actors, and people who worked on set, even in the freezing cold at 2AM Monday morning. And of course I'd like to thank our editors for editing late into the night to help put this together.
This couldn't have been done without your help and it will all be worth it this Friday.

So this Friday at 9pm: come to the Loft Cinema at 3233 E. Speedway Blvd. It will be awesome!

Editing: October 20th

Progress report: today we went hard into editing for Speak No Evil. Mostly doing tedious sound/video synchronization but we were able to do a little creative editing with the final fight scene.

Pictured above left is Scott, the director, and on the right is Andrew, one of the Speak No Evil editors hard at work putting this film together.

We're aiming for the November 4th release date at The Loft Cinema. This gives us just two weeks to get this completed. Keep your fingers crossed that we can get it put together in time. But with the team we have: there shouldn't be any doubt.

New Editor

Here is Manuel editing a little bit of Speak No Evil on the Macintosh PC workstations in "The Zone" on October 4th.
We're trying to get the fight final sequence cut together, perhaps the most demanding editing task in the project, in addition to fine tuning what has already been cut together.

We're aiming for a November 4th release date: so set your calenders because it's coming.

La Placita Exploding

We've been working on getting this explosion shot complete: a shot of the La Placita Garage in downtown Tucson.

Of course we couldn't actually blow up the garage: so we did the next best thing with Motion and After Effects.

Expect to see a few effects shots in this film.
